Often cited as the prettiest town on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, Tamarindo is not only home to the perfect beach for people learning to surf, but also a wide array of restaurants serving international cuisine, quaint bars, lots of live music, plenty of shops and access to almost any kind of activity you might want to enjoy on your vacation.
Nestled alongside Las Baulas National Marine Park, Tamarindo is home to diverse wildlife, including howler monkeys, hummingbirds, colourful butterflies, green sea turtles and leather back turtles, rays and the odd (but infrequent) crocodile! You can get up close and personal with some beautiful species in the national park, just a short boat ride from town.
Tamarindo is small enough to get around on foot, but offers all the services to keep travellers comfortable. You’ll find everything from pizza to sushi to Argentinian steak and even Israeli pitas. Even after dinner, there’s plenty going on. Live music can be enjoyed almost every night of the week one of many a beachfront restaurant, under the glow of lanterns. Or, if your taste is for something more upbeat, there are several lounges and nightclubs in town where you can dance the night away to salsa, reggae or dance hits.
If you plan on visiting Costa Rica’s west coast, Tamarindo should be on the top of your list of destinations.
